PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

Stunning family black & white portraits all captured from the comfort of your own home.

Portraits Made Simple

I believe that capturing portraits of family members’ loved ones should be easy and available to everyone. From experience in portrait photography, making sure the person feels at ease is key to making sure you capture them; this is especially true with children and elderly family and friends.

I remove this by coming to your home. With a small lightweight setup I can quickly set up and capture your photography, saving on time and stress compared to having to visit a normal studio.

Complete package: photography, print and frame. The price you see is the total price that you pay – no upsell. If you would like more copies or a different size, no problem, but all packages have a 16″ x 20″ frame with a float-mounted 10″ x 14″ fine art print, which is a fantastic size for most homes.

My Style Of Photography

I love black and white portrait photography. The contrast and depth and simplicity of the image I have always found helps really showcase the peronality of the person I am taking the portrait of. I offer a couple of styles high key and low key lighting styles. When you book your session you can request which or a mixture of both styles depending on your preference.

High Key Style

High key portraits use bright, gentle light to create images that feel clean, uplifting, and full of warmth. The background is light, tones are soft, and the focus is entirely on expression and character.

This style is perfect if you love:

  • A fresh, modern look

  • Light-filled interiors

  • Portraits that feel joyful and open

High key portraits work beautifully for children and families, creating images that feel effortless, elegant, and timeless on the wall.

Low Key Style

Low key portraits use carefully controlled light and shadow to create depth, contrast, and mood. The background is darker, allowing the subject to emerge from shadow with incredible presence and detail.

This style is ideal if you’re drawn to:

  • Bold, artistic images

  • A classic, fine-art feel

  • Portraits with emotion and impact

Low key portraits have a timeless, almost painterly quality perfect for creating statement pieces that feel intimate and powerful.

How does it work?

I offer three portrait services which have broken in to different collections and editions.

1. Select Your Portrait Service

Look through which portrait service is right for you and then select and make an appointment. You will be asked for some contact details and then a deposit to secure your booking. Please remember I also offer bespoke portrait commissions, so if you require one, please feel free to contact me

2. Photography Is Taken

I will arrive at your home, and with a simple lightweight lighting setup and equipment, I can quickly set up in a living room or dining room. A portrait shoot typically lasts 45-60 min depending on the service chosen.

3. Process The Images

The images will be processed, and a proof sheet of the images will be sent for you to select your chosen images.
Contemporary Portrait orders normally take 10 working days. Artisan film portrait orders take up 14 working days; this extra time is due to processing and scanning of the film.

Artisan Film Portraits

In a world where thousands of images can be captured in seconds, film asks something different of both the photographer and the subject. With just 12 frames on a roll, every portrait is carefully metered, thoughtfully composed and created with intention.

There is something perfect in the imperfect. Film has a character all of its own, creating portraits with a depth and authenticity that simply can’t be rushed. It’s a slower, more deliberate process—one that celebrates craftsmanship as much as the finished portrait.

Artisan Film Portraits includes a 16″ x 20″ frame with a float-mounted or single-mounted 10″ x 14″ fine art print in a choice of black or white frame moulding.

Artisan Film Portrait Price: £975.00

Please note, if you require any other sizes or photography, please contact me for a bespoke commission.

FAQ

These are the most frequently asked questions, but if you have any, don’t hesitate to contact us.

How much space do you need?

Very little; I use a small setup with a single flash light and a popup background. A kitchen or living room is usually sufficient. We can even shoot outside if the weather permits!

Do you need power?

Since all of my equipment runs on batteries, I don't need a mains outlet.

How long does a session last?

Including setup and packup, a single subject session usually lasts about an hour. Because film takes more time, artisan sessions are a little longer.

Are there any hidden costs?

The price you pay includes the photography and a beautifully handcrafted 20 × 16” frame, handmade in the UK and presented with your chosen 16 × 12” archival fine art print. If you would like additional framed images, these can be purchased separately, but there is no obligation to do so.

Contemporary or Artisan which is better?

Neither is better—they simply offer a different look and experience.

Contemporary sessions are photographed using the latest Canon mirrorless cameras and lenses, offering exceptional detail, flexibility and consistency.

Artisan sessions are photographed on 120 film using a Bronica SQ-A medium-format camera. Film has a distinctive softness, texture and character that gives each image a timeless, handcrafted quality. Think of it like choosing between a state-of-the-art smartwatch and a beautifully made mechanical watch. Both are excellent—the right choice depends on how you want your photographs to look and feel.
